A Group Exhibition Celebrating Contemporary Australian Art and the Reanchoring of ROMULUS Folio Gallery
30 July – 27 August 2026
Curated by Angelina Mirabito, PhD
There is something remarkable about a prism.
Within a single beam of light exists an extraordinary spectrum of colour. A prism reveals every colour and every facet, inviting us to see the familiar in new ways.
This idea lies at the heart of PRISM, a group exhibition bringing together the work of eight local Melbourne artists whose diverse practices celebrate the richness and vitality of contemporary Australian art.
Peter Brook, Byzantium sky, 56 x 51cm, Acrylic on Linen, 2024, $2000
Featuring Peter Brook, Elizabeth Gleeson, Gerard Russo, Mathew Simpson, Fiona Johnston, Keith Ross, Xinzhi (Dorris) Li and Regina Kaluzny, the exhibition presents a carefully curated collection of painting and mixed media. Each artist contributes a distinctive visual language shaped through colour, line, pattern, form, materiality and process. Together, the works create a vibrant dialogue that celebrates the many ways artists observe, interpret and express the world around them.
Inspired by the prism’s ability to reveal the full spectrum of light, the exhibition embraces diversity as a source of creative strength. Every artwork contributes its own perspective while enriching the collective experience, inviting audiences to discover unexpected connections between artistic practices, ideas and materials.
PRISM offers an opportunity to experience contemporary Australian art through multiple ways of seeing. From richly textured abstraction and expressive gesture to figurative expression and intricate pattern, the exhibition celebrates the breadth of contemporary practice and the individuality of each exhibiting artist.
Matthew Simpson, Fjord, 102 x 102cm, Oil on canvas,2026, $2000
The exhibition also marks an exciting new chapter for ROMULUS Folio Gallery as it reanchors at the World Trade Centre Melbourne.
Located within Tower 3, Level 3, the gallery is establishing its new Studio Gallery as part of a growing creative community alongside Creative Asia Foundation, Le Grange Gallery and the emerging Melbourne Arts Advancement Centre. Together, these organisations are contributing to a vibrant cultural destination in the heart of Docklands, creating new opportunities for artists, audiences and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
As an independent artist-run initiative led by Creative Director and Artist in Residence Dr Angelina Mirabito and Gallery Manager Scott Ross, ROMULUS Folio Gallery continues its commitment to presenting contemporary art while creating meaningful connections between art, architecture, interior design and the broader creative industries.
PRISM marks the beginning of an evolving exhibition program from the gallery’s new home, alongside artist talks, workshops, major commissions and collaborative projects that celebrate creativity, innovation and community.
Whether you are a collector, curator, architect, designer, artist or someone discovering these artists for the first time, PRISM offers an opportunity to engage with exceptional contemporary art within an intimate gallery environment and to experience one of Melbourne’s growing creative destinations.
