ANDREA VARGAS

About Andrea

Andrea Vargas is a multidisciplinary Latin American artist based in Melbourne, Australia, where she has lived and practiced for over eight years. Working across sculpture, ceramics, photography, and watercolour, her practice is grounded in an exploration of form, texture, touch, story, and presence. Vargas creates work that occupies a space between the intimate and the architectural—where material becomes a vessel for memory, emotion, and connection.

Her visual language is deeply tactile and poetic, driven by a sensitivity to surface, gesture, and spatial dialogue. Whether through clay, lens, or pigment, Vargas approaches each medium as both a physical and emotional inquiry, inviting viewers into quietly potent narratives shaped by place, identity, and lived experience. Her works often carry a sense of stillness and softness, while holding underlying tensions that reflect themes of belonging, ritual, and personal mythology.

Alongside her studio practice, Vargas is an experienced art advisor and curator, directing creative projects with strong narrative frameworks. She has collaborated on and led both solo and group exhibitions, and is recognised for building cohesive curatorial visions that support artists while engaging audiences through story-led presentation.

With a strong background in cultural engagement and education, Vargas’s work extends beyond the studio into community-based practice, workshops, and arts programming. She is passionate about creating accessible, meaningful cultural experiences and fostering dialogue through art. Her multidisciplinary approach reflects a commitment not only to making, but to shaping environments where art is felt, encountered, and lived.

Andrea Vargas continues to evolve a practice that is both materially rich and emotionally grounded, positioning her as an artist whose work is defined by authenticity, quiet intensity, and a deep respect for process and narrative.
