ROMULUS

A look back at my three-month journey at ROMULUS.

Last week, we visited Creative Asia Art Centre to see the group exhibition Beneath One Moon. Taking the Mid-Autumn Festival as its cultural background, the exhibition begins with the familiar image of the moon and extends its meanings of reunion, family and longing into broader conversations about culture, identity, belonging and human connection.

My three-month internship at ROMULUS Folio Gallery has been a really rewarding experience. From exhibition planning, installation and opening events to visiting art fairs and galleries, as well as exploring collaborations between art and interior design, I had the opportunity to experience different sides of the art industry and gain a better understanding of how it works in practice.

ROMULUS Folio is pleased to highlight works by Giuseppina Graziano and Doris (Xinzhi) Li in Beneath One Moon (明月共此時), a Mid-Autumn exhibition at Creative Asia Art Centre.

Last month, ROMULUS Folio visited Sydney Contemporary 2026, held at Carriageworks from 3–6 September.

Last month, we visited White Rabbit Gallery to see Black Myth. The exhibition takes its name and inspiration from the hugely popular 2024 video game Black Myth: Wukong, which retells the story of the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. Starting from this famous journey, the exhibition expands the idea of a ‘journey’ into something much broader. Many of the works draw on traditional Chinese culture, mythology, literature and landscape imagery, and reorganise these familiar elements through contemporary art. Among the works in the exhibition, four especially stood out to me.

ROMULUS Folio Gallery is pleased to share The Marble Sea Series, a new commission comprising seven paintings by Angelina Mirabito, created in collaboration with Australian interior designer and bespoke furniture maker Mark Alexander for a penthouse apartment overlooking the ocean on the Gold Coast.

Recently, we visited Five Walls Gallery to see Peter Brook’s exhibition, Hot Minute.

When we first entered the gallery, the strong visual impact of the works immediately caught our attention. Blue blocks of colour and white lines fill the canvas, with fine lines crossing and connecting across the surface. From a distance, the works feel controlled and calm, with an almost regular sense of order.

In a gallery, we are used to seeing art in a certain way. White walls and open spaces allow us to focus almost entirely on the artwork itself.

However, when an artwork enters a home, our relationship with it begins to change. Furniture, light, materials, colour, and the traces of everyday life all become part of how we experience the work.

When I first looked at Peter Brook’s Byzantium sky and Razzmic Cinnabar, I found that they were very alike in composition. Both paintings are divided horizontally into two broad fields of colour, crossed by a row of narrow vertical lines. Their structures are orderly and controlled, almost as though the same visual formula had been repeated. Despite this shared composition, the two works create remarkably different experiences through the use of colour.

This August, the ROMULUS Folio Gallery team joins Threads of Love as guest curator and project manager, bringing together female artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and artistic practices for a contemporary exploration of creativity, identity, memory, cultural inheritance, love and human connection.

As part of Double Seventh Cultural Week, Creative Asia Art Centre will host Water, Lacquer & Love: A Contemporary Lacquer Fan Workshop on Sunday 16 August 2026, bringing together contemporary art, traditional craftsmanship, cultural exchange and community connection.
