Fiona Johnston

About Fiona

Fiona Johnston is an Australian artist based on the Bellarine Peninsula whose practice reflects a deep appreciation for family, community, and nature. Originally from Melbourne, Johnston’s artistic journey has been shaped by a desire to extend her creativity beyond the studio and into the broader community, using her work to foster connection and positive impact.

After leaving the corporate world to pursue her long-held passion for art, Johnston dedicated four years to developing her practice before undertaking a Bachelor of Design Arts at LCI Melbourne, majoring in Visual Arts. Through this formal study, she refined her artistic voice, explored diverse concepts, and built the foundation for a professional career in the arts.

Working primarily with watercolour, acrylic, texture, and monoprinting, Johnston cultivates an abstract style that balances light, depth, and movement. Her studio is a space for experimentation and discovery, where intuitive process and emotional expression intertwine.

Johnston draws inspiration from the rhythms of everyday life — family, personal experience, travel, gallery visits, and the natural world. Her warm and vibrant colour palette reflects the beauty she observes in her surroundings, translating her environment into works that evoke both energy and serenity.

As her practice continues to evolve, Johnston remains committed to exploring new materials, ideas, and techniques, expanding the expressive possibilities of her work while deepening her engagement with the creative community around her.
