Welcoming Back Fiona Johnston to Romulus Folio Gallery: Exploring Change and Continuity

Romulus Folio Gallery is delighted to welcome back Melbourne-based artist Fiona Johnston for her second exhibition with us. We first connected with Fiona during Melbourne Design Week 2025 and in September, featured her work in our Echoes group exhibition. Since then, we have enjoyed getting to know both Fiona and her practice, which captures emotional resonance through her innovative use of sand texture and acrylics applied with a fluid, almost watercolour-like approach.

Johnston’s work explores the fluid boundaries between memory, experience, and environment. Through her distinctive use of colour, texture, and form, she reflects on themes of change, transition, and the interplay between past and present. Her paintings invite audiences to contemplate the subtle shifts that shape our lives, from personal transformation to the evolving landscapes around us.

New work will feature in our upcoming group exhibition, Transitions 5 December 2025 - 25 January 25 2026, where Fiona continues to expand on these ideas. The exhibition showcases a vibrant new palette that moves beyond the soft earthy tones of her pieces in Echoes. These pieces transition into moments of movement and transformation, both physical and emotional, offering meditative reflections on impermanence and continuity. Fiona’s nuanced colours, dynamic compositions, and tactile surfaces reveal a profound sensitivity, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in her exploration of change.
