ABOUT ROMULUS FOLIO GALLERY

Romulus Folio Gallery is a contemporary arts initiative located within The Gladstone in South Melbourne.

Founded online in 2024 and taking on a physical location through an open studio residency, the gallery has developed into a dedicated cultural space working at the intersection of contemporary art, design, and myth. Romulus Folio integrates daily studio practice with a curated exhibition program, creating an environment where making and exhibiting occur side by side.

The gallery’s identity is shaped by the belief that creative spaces can emerge organically through practice, community connection, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Romulus Folio presents exhibitions, installations, workshops, and events that explore material experimentation, visual storytelling, and the mythic narratives that continue to inform contemporary artistic practice. The gallery contributes to the growing cultural life of Fishermans Bend while supporting a roster of artists across diverse mediums.

OUR VISION

Romulus Folio is guided by a vision that positions the gallery as a site where art, design, and mythic thinking intersect. We aim to create experiences that invite emotional resonance, imaginative engagement, and intellectual depth. Through narrative driven curation and material exploration, the gallery investigates themes of transformation, threshold, memory, and the enduring symbolic power of myth within contemporary life.

As an emerging gallery, Romulus Folio is committed to fostering artistic growth, supporting career development, and cultivating a dialogue between artists, audiences, designers, and the broader creative community. Our long-term vision is to establish Romulus Folio as a culturally relevant and institutionally recognised gallery that expands the boundaries of how art can be encountered and understood.

OUR APPROACH

Romulus Folio operates through a practice led methodology grounded in openness, experimentation, and interdisciplinary thinking. The open studio where the gallery opens access to, offers visitors direct insight into the making process. This transparency creates an active dialogue between our lead artist, audience, and space, reinforcing the gallery’s role as a living, evolving environment.

Exhibitions are approached as cohesive experiences shaped by materiality, atmosphere, and contemporary narrative. The gallery supports artists whose practices draw from abstraction, design influence, spatial sensibility, mythic imagery, poetic thinking, and experimental form. By working collaboratively with artists and designers, Romulus Folio cultivates a creative ecosystem that is responsive, immersive, and deeply engaged with place.
