What remains after the fire? What glows, smoulders, refuses to be extinguished?
EMBERS is a visceral two-person exhibition by artist Angelina Mirabito and installation artist Scott Ross, exploring the raw material of transformation—what we burn through, and what quietly survives.
At the heart of the exhibition are Mirabito’s bold palette knife paintings, paired with sculptural works made from upcycled shipping pallet pieces. These salvaged forms speak to cycles of damage and renewal—vessels once discarded, now reimagined into textured surfaces of strength, softness, and survival.
A monumental Impact Wall carries the theme of embers into pure material form. Composed of thick whites, creams, petal whites, and layered metallics—bronze, gold, and ember-red—this installation evokes a subtle emergence. It suggests something sacred rising from silence: a slow unfurling from heat, from history, from the unseen.
Scott Ross’s immersive video and light installation animates the exhibition with breath and movement. Flickering, pulsing, and shimmering through the space, his work speaks in the language of memory, firelight, and the spaces in-between.
Some embers lie dormant, waiting for the right breath to re-ignite. Others burn steadily, offering warmth and quiet warning. This exhibition honours both.
About the Artist
Melbourne-based artist Angelina Mirabito brings a background in Creative Writing (PhD) and a practice shaped by her Italian heritage. Also using unconventional materials and tools—palette knives, sticks, hands, and ladles—she builds layered surfaces that translate internal experiences into vibrant, tactile paintings. Her work explores the intersection of emotion, movement, and materiality, drawing attention to the physical and sensory depth of abstract expression.
The exhibition and all events are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all visitors.
