About Reconnecting to Roots:
On these lands we now know as Australia, many of our ancestors journeyed from faraway places—carrying with them the hopes, traditions, and stories of their homelands. In building new lives here, many experienced a deep disconnection from the Country, Culture, and Kin that once gave them a strong sense of belonging.
How do we begin to reconcile that separation?
Perhaps one way could be by remembering that their stories live on in us. Their wisdom runs through our bones. We only need to listen for the quiet call within—and have the courage to respond.
As Tata Juan Nelson Rojas (Traditional Knowledge-holder of the Nahuat Pipil First Nation of El Salvador) says:
“We dream the past to remember the future.”
Reconnecting to Roots is open to all peoples from all ancestral lineages as we share conversation, stories, and songs that have been sung into being from our ancestors. Perhaps a space within you will open to become more curious about your culture’s own stories and traditions.
About the event:
‘Remembering Celtic Story and Song’ you’ll hear the timeless tale of the Selkie and, through Irish Gaelic song, we’ll call upon Goddess Brigid to guide and guard us. As we journey there will be space for connection, reflection and inspired writing with an open invitation to share your musings with the collective.
Let this be an afternoon to nourish your spirit, spark your curiosity, and perhaps gently fan the flame of ancestral threads.
Come as you are and be amongst a brilliant group of people in an open and warm environment and, ofcourse, great Craic! All are welcome.
What to bring:
Something to write on and with
A water bottle and your favourite mug
Anything you need to sit comfortably on the floor and get cosy in
