Threads of Connection

Kids Friendship Bracelets Workshop | Romulus Folio Gallery Holiday Program

As part of Romulus Folio Gallery’s holiday program, we recently hosted a Kids Friendship Bracelets Workshop that transformed the gallery into a space of laughter, movement and shared making. The afternoon unfolded with colour, conversation and even some impromptu dancing, as the children brought their own rhythm and energy into the space, including teaching us the latest SpongeBob song currently trending.

While playful on the surface, workshops like these form an important part of Romulus Folio’s broader approach to public programming. We see the gallery not only as a site for exhibition, but as a place where curiosity can be nurtured through hands on engagement with materials. For many participants, this workshop marked an early encounter with contemporary art within a professional gallery setting.

The act of making friendship bracelets offered an accessible entry point into ideas central to contemporary practice: material choice, colour relationships, pattern, repetition and personal expression. Through simple processes, the children experienced how meaning can emerge through making, collaboration and experimentation.

At Romulus Folio Gallery, we believe that introducing young audiences to contemporary art does not require simplification, but invitation. By creating welcoming, inclusive environments where children feel comfortable to explore, create and express themselves, we help build confidence, creative literacy and long-term relationships with art and cultural spaces.

Our holiday programs sit alongside exhibitions, artist-led workshops and public events, forming part of an ongoing commitment to audience development and community engagement. Moments of joy, play and shared experience are not peripheral to this work, they are foundational.

We look forward to continuing to open the gallery to young makers and future artists through programs that celebrate creativity, curiosity and connection.
