Play, Press and Build: Sensory Colour Exploration
Kids Play Dough Workshop | Ages 2.5 to 7
Romulus Folio Gallery
As part of Romulus Folio Gallery’s holiday program, Play, Press and Build: Sensory Colour Exploration invited children aged 2.5 to 7 into the gallery for a tactile, hands-on workshop focused on colour, shape, and collaborative making. Working with primary colours alongside green, children explored play dough through touch, pressure, and construction, engaging their senses while building imaginative scenes together.
The workshop introduced sculptural and compositional ideas through guided prompts. By manipulating play dough into three-dimensional geometric forms, such as spheres and thin cylinders, the children created shared visual scenes, including a rainbow flower and sun. These explorations encouraged spatial awareness, structural thinking, and creative decision-making.
Stencils were introduced as tools for extension and collaboration, allowing each child to complete their own scene while sharing materials and ideas. The process highlighted how structure and freedom can coexist, allowing children to build confidence while responding to common visual elements.
Play dough offers an accessible entry point into contemporary art through sensory engagement and material exploration. By working directly with form and colour, children experience how ideas take shape through touch and process, rather than fixed outcomes.
At Romulus Folio Gallery, workshops like this form part of our 2026 commitment to early creative engagement, accessibility, and audience development. By welcoming young participants into a professional gallery environment supported by Greystar at The Gladstone, we support curiosity, connection, and long-term relationships with art and cultural spaces.
