Reconnecting To Roots
It was a true pleasure to host Reconnecting to Roots at the Romulus Folio Gallery on the 20th September. Guided by host Katheryn Farrell, the group was led through story and song that opened a pathway to connect with our ancestral roots. Her voice and presence created a space of reflection, depth, and gentle discovery.
A highlight of the afternoon was the contribution of Dr Rune Hjarnø Rasmussen, historian of religion with a Ph.D from Uppsala University, whose work in animist traditions and ancestral knowledge has inspired many around the world. Drawing from years of research into Afro-Diasporic religions and Nordic heritage, Rune shared how ancient animism practices, particularly those rooted in Northern Europe, can guide us in reshaping our relationship with land, story, song, and kinship today. Through his work with Nordic Animism, he invited us to reconnect with the spirits of landscape and season, reviving cultural memory in ways that support ecological awareness and collective belonging.
The gathering offered a nourishing blend of reflection, journaling, connection, and song with a backdrop of the beautiful artworks of Angelina Mirabito's Whispers From The Grove Exhibition. The beautiful melodies sung by Katheryn lingered in the gallery space, reminding us of the threads that link us to our ancestors.
Reconnecting to Roots was an afternoon that not only honoured tradition but also sparked curiosity for the stories and wisdom each of us carries within.
