Reflections on Workshop 2: Weaving Three Stories
Throughout the afternoon of, June 21, the second workshop in the Weaving Three Stories series was an afternoon of grounding, sharing, and connection.
We began with a deeply moving Smoking Ceremony led by Steven Thorpe from Sustainative Australia. His presence and words created a sacred space that set the tone for the rest of the day.
Bianca Easton from Weaving Connections then guided us in creating woven jewellery keepsakes, a tactile and meditative practice that helped translate cultural connection into form.
Merilyn Merm Duff, a cultural artist from Eternal Ancestors, shared a powerful story with us. It’s hard to put into words just how much her storytelling resonated, it’s something I will carry with me for a long time to come.
We also heard from Jim Beggs, who shared his memories of Fishermans Bend, the shifting stories of place, community, and change that continue to shape the land around us.
Our heartfelt thanks to Sarah Naarden, organiser and creative director from Initiatives of Change Australia, for her vision and care in bringing this series to life. The workshop was supported by Fishermans Bend Ideas, Kate Spencer from Port of Melbourne, and Michael Woods of Pacific Studios.
Final workshop: Saturday 26 July, 2–5 PM
