Welcoming Ellen Jury to Romulus Folio Gallery: Observing the Quiet in Everyday Life
Ellen Jury
Romulus Folio Gallery is delighted to welcome Melbourne-based artist Ellen Jury whose practice exemplifies the gallery’s commitment to artists whose work interrogates perception, emotion, and the poetic resonance of everyday life.
Ellen Jury’s work focuses on the often overlooked spaces of suburban and domestic environments. Through precise compositions and subtle tonalities, her work captures the quiet moments of familiarity, isolation, and introspection.
Jury invites viewers to reconsider the emotional landscapes that inhabit their daily surroundings by translating seemingly mundane environments into richly atmospheric paintings. Her work navigates the intersection of memory, psychology, and space, making the ordinary extraordinary.
Currently, Ellen’s work is featured in our group exhibition Observer November 7-30, which explores the art of noticing, attention, and the emotional weight of observation. In this context, Jury’s paintings serve as a contemplative lens through which viewers encounter the subtleties of everyday spaces. Works such as Beach Houses, 2025, distil domestic environments into moments of quiet reflection, offering an emotional counterpoint to more overtly narrative or sculptural works in the show.
