TIDES & TRANSFORMATION
FISHERMANS BEND EXHIBITION
Angelina Mirabito
June 11th - July 5th 2025
Tides & Transformation emerged from Angelina Mirabito’s artist residency at The Gladstone, located in Fishermans Bend, a place marked by industrial history, erosion, and quiet renewal. This layered, ever-changing landscape became both my canvas and my muse.
Drawn to materials shaped by time and touch, she worked with repurposed shipping pallets, their surfaces etched with the wear of labour and movement. Some works are painted over old canvases, showing traces of what came before, creating a dialogue between past and present, between the discarded and what is becoming.
This process of layering and repurposing reflects the spirit of Fishermans Bend itself. Nothing is erased; everything is built upon. The land remembers, and so do the works. Each is a fragment of transformation, a gesture of resilience, a tide that recedes and returns.
The exhibition features a video presentation, ‘Moments in Time’ by Scott Ross, responding to the area's layered history and shifting landscape.
Works created by residents during Romulus Folio Gallery community workshops complete the exhibition, expressions of shared place, change, and renewal. Scott Ross and Angelina Mirabito curated part of the display using industrial waste materials salvaged from the area, grounding the exhibition in its physical and social context.
Tides & Transformation meditates upon adaptation, what we carry forward, and the quiet, persistent beauty of becoming.
