Drawing as Witness invites participants of any level to slow down and engage in the act of seeing and recording what is in front of us.
Held in a relaxed yet intentional environment under the guidance of artist Gerard Russo, the workshop focuses on drawing as both observation and translation through mark, learning to look with care, to notice more, and to respond through the hand using practical ideas and techniques.
Working with one of the most versatile and expressive mediums — charcoal — participants will explore how gesture, perception, and mark intersect. Through a series of guided exercises, you’ll learn to narrow your focus, tune into subtle shifts of tone and form, and build confidence in translating what you see into image while reinforcing your artistic voice.
