workshop Reflection: Art of Emotions
Our Art of Emotions workshop on June 28 offered a slower, more spacious return to palette knife painting. Participants, new and returning, were gently guided into stillness before approaching the canvas.
We began by checking in with our emotional state, mapping colours and textures to what was present in our desires, the journey to experience them, and past moments where we’d deliberately made change to bring a goal into being. In doing so, we invited the power to transform our present into something aligned with what we most value.
Some followed a single emotion from start to finish. Others built up layers like geological memory, the past pressing gently beneath the surface of now.
With each swipe of the palette knife, something unspoken found form. There were sharp edges and soft blends. Rapid gestures and pauses of stillness. It wasn’t about making a picture, it was about creating a moment of truth. A connection with our capacity to move through challenge and toward fulfillment.
The room held a collective quiet, the presence of occasional chatter amongst the soft scrape of metal on canvas. The atmosphere was intimate, reverent, and quietly electric.
As participants completed their pieces at their own pace, they helped themselves to refreshments and wandered the current Tides and Transformations exhibition, reflecting and sharing conversation in their own time.
This is the magic of our workshops: the alchemy of emotion, community, and art.
Art of Emotions reminded us again how much beauty lives in the courage to feel.
